The right way to walk in the mountains
Here, too, we are happy to pass on our many years of experience and help you to plan and organize your mountain and hiking tours in the best possible way.
At the start of a hike, you are in full possession of your strength and highly motivated to reach your destination and “storm the summit” with all your energy.
The disappointment is all the greater when you lose your strength and the enjoyable hike turns into an ordeal…
The beginning is crucial…
Start slowly, especially if the route leads you uphill from the start.
Your muscles need time to warm up (about 20 minutes) before they are fully functional.
If you overstrain your muscles, this will lead to a state of fatigue from which your body will not recover for the rest of the day (even after longer breaks).
There is also a risk of cramps and torn muscle fibers and it is not uncommon to pay for walking too fast the following day with sore muscles.
After the break-in phase, only increase your walking speed slowly.
You can use your breathing as a control: If it is calm and even, you are walking at the right pace.
If your breathing is irregular or even halting and wheezing, it is high time to change your walking pace!
The walking rhythm:
Our body can perform repetitive, steady movements over a period of time much better than hectic, uncontrolled movements.
For this reason, pay attention to a rhythmic, almost meditative stride.
Once this rhythm has become second nature, you no longer need to pay much attention to it, your body will do it automatically.
Your hiking guide Christian will be happy to show you these and other techniques on our hiking tours!
